Shouting from the Shed 78

I spent the last year exploring the single map that I live on. 52 grid squares in 52 weeks. I feared that staying on just one map would be limiting and constricting compared to flying off to foreign lands. But the more I got to know my map, the more I knew how little I knew. You can read about my local discoveries here (or wait for the book I’m writing about it).  Everywhere there is a whiff of the wild: walking London’s Capital Ring. ‍️ “What happens if the stories we tell ourselves about our lives leave us lonely, wrestling with meaning?” A superb essay about ultra-running (and life). ‍️ 18 years ago a slight lapse in concentration crushed Pascale’s dreams of surfing. With the help of a family friend and a roll of duct tape; she can now call herself a surfer. A lovely short film.  After my last newsletter I received an email requesting that I share some inspiring ‘older’ adventurous souls. I asked Twitter for advice and received some fantastic suggestions.

Elsie, 13, is cycling 600 miles to COP over 3 weeks, whilst talking at schools collecting climate pledges on the way.  Alex has launched a podcast featuring life lessons for our kids.  Stevie and Laura are making a record-breaking attempt to circumnavigate the globe on a tandem.  Andy walked the Cape Wrath Trial with his son, a week a year starting when he was 14.  Clare has written Moth Boy, a ‘compelling adventure story for children’.
