Some good Adventure Books to read

I’ve been having a sort through the bookshelves in my shed. Yes, you’re right, this is a classic procrastination tactic when I should be writing a book.

Anyway, I thought I’d share a few gems with you in case you’re in the mood for reading about adventure. There’s a bunch of different categories below, starting with…

If you’re looking for some fabulous adventure books written by women…

(I felt a real idiot discovering Kim Heacox was a man!! I read the entire book assuming Kim was a woman. 😂 I emailed HIM to apologise and he said it happens all the time!)

And see also this crowd-sourced list of your recommendations of excellent adventure books written by women.

If you’re looking for some good books about the adventure of space exploration…

If you’re looking for some timeless examples of superb travel writing…

If you want to read some stories of epic journeys…

If you’re interested in books about the motivations of explorers – their egos, foibles and search for meaning or peace… (Quite a niche topic, granted!)

If you’re looking for some cracking books about mountains, climbing and mountaineering…

If you’d like to read some excellent books about climbing Everest, the world’s highest mountain…

I’m currently writing a children’s book called ‘The Girl Who Rowed the Ocean’, so I’ve been reading up. If you’d like to read about what it takes to row across an ocean, here’s some good books to dive into…

If you’d like to read some good books about polar adventures…

Also, this clown has written quite a few books too…

  1. Procrastination tactic or not, my reading list just got a whole lot longer. I’m starting A Time Of Gifts next, after I’ve finished reading The Wild Places.

Great List. One correction though; Kim Heacox, author of “The Only Kayak” was not a woman when he signed my copy of the book. I believe that is still the case.

Oh woops! I read and enjoyed that entire story under the impression that ‘Kim’ was a woman! That’s hilarious (and a tad embarrassing!)

About space exploration: have you read “Rocket Men: The Daring Odyssey of Apollo 8 and the Astronauts Who Made Man’s First Journey to the Moon”?

It’s fantastic! Gives me so much inspiration about adventure and exploration.

One great adventure book to add to you’re collection is ; Living The Best Day Ever by Hendri Coetzee.

This guy Kayaked and hiked all over Africa and brilliantly documented his journeys. His life tragically ended though by a Crocodile attack whilst Kayaking with two others down the upper Congo river. He was taken under by the beast and never seen again.A TV documentary was made about this final journey by Hendri Coetzee.
