Adventuring during lockdown. With even long, solitary bike rides off-limits I’ve decided to explore smaller than ever. Starting from my front door I’m going to run every street (using citystrides.com, heatflask.com and Strava) on a mission to go places I have never been before. It is a way to notice new and beautiful and wild things, even in the most familiar of settings. It gives my ration of exercise a sense of purpose and adventure.

Hi there…
I’m kinda doing something similar to running /walking every street …I’m just doing it on a bigger scale : ) At the end of the first lockdown here in nz I started a new adventure /challenge of riding every road in nz on my bike … And there’s around 94,000 km of roads in nz… I’m about 1800 km into it : ) it’s going to take me a while.. Around the next 5-10 years… : )
I’m doing it with a mix of full time solo bike touring (I have been solo bike touring around nz for about the last 12? Years) and day rides…
There’s so many different places and roads that many people never visit here in nz so I decided to go exploring on the road less travelled by bike around nz…
I guess I should add that because of a unknown medical condition I lost my ability to walk about a year or so ago so use a wheelchair to get around off the bike… (with my wheelchair on my bike trailer when riding… (I might not be able walk or run anymore but I can still ride my bike so that’s what I do : )
At the moment I’m doing a bit of fundraising for the challenge athletes foundation (more on that on my blog) with my riding every road in nz adventure /challenge…
I’m posting info from my Strava and photos of each day of riding on my Instagram account at @gypsyonabike1 if anyone wants to see what I’m up to : )

See you on the road less travelled : )
This is fantastic!
Having listened to your rallying cry to run every street during lockdown (as well being inspired by Ricky Gates and others), I began my lockdown challenge of running every street within the Oxford City boundaries at the beginning of October, hoping to complete this within 3 months (balancing work/family life at the same time). I finally finished on 31st December – 307 miles, 49 separate runs- an amazing adventure and loved every moment. I’ve seen more than I’ve ever seen of this city i’ve lived in for 16 years and appreciated the diversity of people and neighbourhoods. Thanks for the inspiration!
Oh wow – well done!
