    Shouting from the Shed 148

Shouting from the Shed Hello again! I hope you are enjoying the summer and planning lots of adventures. Perhaps what you need

    Shouting from the Shed
    Hello again!

I hope you are enjoying the summer and planning lots of adventures. Perhaps what you need to make it even better is… a book about planning adventures large or small! ?

If you haven’t read any of them, please would you give one a try, or buy one as a gift? You can buy them on my website in the UK, or on the online bookstore of your choice everywhere else.

    Thank you!

Some things I’d like to share with you today:

    • Ten books that sparked debate, started conversations, and launched movements in the past ten years—and what to read next.
    • Mein erstes ins Deutsche übersetztes Buch…
    • Snippets of wisdom from the always-interesting Wait But Why.
    • 350 days of hiking through China – a timelapse.
    • Fascinating: life on a submarine in the Arctic.
    • Eight youngsters headed out this week to tackle the 24-mile Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, in memory of their Aunt, a Police Officer killed while assisting a traffic accident. Please support them if you can.
    Adventure + Purpose:

My big effort this year is my A+P newsletter. But I’m well aware you don’t all need more emails from me! So here’s just one recent post:

    • The Seven Summits of My Neighbourhood
    Can I help you?

Let me know if you have a relevant project that my readers would appreciate.

    • ❤️ Jon has written a story about Walking 46 Miles On The Limestone Way and another about A Family Adventure in Nova Scotia.
From the Archives: 50 Newsletters Ago
    • Two women, 20,000 human-powered miles, connecting stories across the Americas. An epic expedition.
    • Danny MacAskill is back on his bike, in one of my favourite cities.
    • I always enjoy end-of-year round up lists (like this). So here is my contribution. Good books I have read recently.
    • What it takes to Run a Sub-Four-Minute Mile for 20 years straight.
    • What time is it? This literature clock is marvellous and must have entailed so much work!
    • Moss Drapes from Trees in Ethereal Photographs of England’s Forests.
    • Anna McNuff’s new book about running the length of Britain, barefoot, is out now.
    • And because I’m cold in my shed today… Ouch!
Thank you for reading. As Austin Kleon says, “This newsletter is free, but not cheap.” To show your support, would you mind forwarding it to someone who’d like it,  sharing it on Twitter, reading one of my books, subscribing to a free podcast, getting a birthday greeting video from me, or maybe even donating to keep the newsletter going – either monthly on Patreon or treating me to a metaphorical cup of coffee.

(If you’re seeing this newsletter for the first time, you can subscribe here.)

    Cheers,

    Alastair

Newsletters are Free, but Not Cheap

If you find these emails helpful, please consider supporting them with a small monthly contribution on Patreon, or a one-off little tip to keep me smiling (and writing)? Thank you.

Thank you so much to the 100+ of you who help support these newsletters via Patreon (either monthly or annually) and keep the metaphorical lights on and the newsletters going out to 18,000 readers.

I am experimenting with a weird model, making payment for this newsletter optional. In other words, it will remain free for everyone to read and enjoy as usual.

But if you’d like to pay for it in order to help me continue to write newsletters and books, then you can do so on Patreon here, paying whatever you like for as long or short a time as you like.

Needless to say, I’m extremely grateful to any generous nutters who opt to pay for something that they can receive for free! It’s not a transaction so much as a contribution that helps everyone. It’s the difference between being a patron and a customer. As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this idea. We’ll see how it goes. Thank you.

    Other Bits’n’Bobs I Do
    • Would you like to try out my other newsletters: The Working Adventurer, The Doorstep Mile or Adventure + Purpose?
    • I have four podcasts you can listen to: Living Adventurously (a series of interviews), Adventure + Purpose (me trying to figure out my life), There Are Other Rivers (a story about walking across India), and The Doorstep Mile (a friendly kick up the bum).
    • I’ve written 16 books, for both adults and children. Hopefully one of them might appeal!
