    Shouting from the Shed
    Hi again,

I’m just home from a fun few days in Bruges and Ghent. I’ve sent the latest draft of my children’s book about Lewis and Clark to my editor (which means that I can chill for a few weeks). And I’ve decided that the next book I was going to write actually only merits being a magazine article (which saves me a big old job). Plus, the mornings are getting lighter, at long last. These are all good things! 😀

Thank you so much to all of you who help support these newsletters via Patreon (either monthly or annually) and keep the metaphorical lights on and the newsletters going out to 15,000 readers.

If you enjoy this newsletter, please forward it to five friends. I’d love to find 5,000 new readers this year. If you don’t enjoy it, please click ‘reply’ and let me know how it could be better!

Some things I’d like to share with you today:

    • 🧠 A succinct summary of the excellent Atomic Habits book that will save you having to read the whole book. 😃
    • 🚜 Farmerama Radio is an award-winning podcast sharing the voices behind regenerative farming. I find it soothing, fascinating, and hopeful!
    • 🐻‍❄️ A really good podcast episode about extinctions (surprisingly upbeat!)
    • ✍️ I’ve created a couple of notebooks designed to help guide journalling, prompt ideas, and nudge you towards action. I’m giving a bunch away, for free, with free postage to UK shipping addresses. (Sorry – UK only: blame Brexit.) First come, first served.
    • 🎥 Film: King of the Fells: Joss Naylor, the shepherd with an unbeatable running record.
    • 📖 Article: “The 19th-Century Hipster Who Pioneered Modern Sportswriting.” More than a century before GoPro, Thomas Stevens was the first person to cycle round the world.
    • 📱 Instagram: Spring, summer, autumn or winter: take your pick in paradise.
    • 📚 Two good books I’ve read recently (plus loads more here):
On Time and Water is an absorbing mixture of travel, history, science and philosophy (whilst also brutal in its assessment of our apathy towards the climate crisis).
North Woods is a strange, beguiling novel narrative of humanity under pressure and nature under threat. It also really loves trees, which scores it a bonus point from me.
    Adventure + Purpose:

My big effort this year is my A+P newsletter. But I’m well aware you don’t all need more emails from me! So here’s just one recent post:

    • 3-2-1: The impact of lunch, eating for nature, and the easiest change you can make.
    Can I help you?

Let me know if you have a relevant project that my readers would appreciate.

Here’s what you guys have been up to recently:

    • 📭  Follow Jonny as he completes the final 6 letter deliveries of his global challenge to deliver 55 letters to unsuspecting recipients around the world.
    • ✍️ Ants and Lois are running their Wild Writing Weekend in the Black Mountains again: 13-15 June 2025.
    • 🚶‍♀️ 9-year-old Layla is preparing to walk the entire 431 km of the Pennine Way this April, all to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital!
    • 🐥 Simon has made a film to help you learn how to build your own bird boxes at home for National Nestbox Week (and find out how putting up bird boxes around your neighbourhood can help conserve birds in our towns and cities.)
Thank you for reading. As Austin Kleon says, “This newsletter is free, but not cheap.” To show your support, would you mind forwarding it to someone who’d like it,  sharing it on Twitter, reading one of my books, subscribing to a free podcast, getting a birthday greeting video from me, or maybe even donating to keep the newsletter going – either monthly on Patreon or treating me to a metaphorical cup of coffee.

(If you’re seeing this newsletter for the first time, you can subscribe here.)

    Cheers,

    Alastair
