    Shouting from the Shed 101

    Shouting from the Shed 101

    Hi again,

Outside it is freezing cold and the wind is howling. But it’s warm in my shed and I like the rattle of March rain on the roof. I’m doing the final proof-read on my next book for children (Great Adventurers 2), I’m trying to cut around 40,000 words (?✂️?) from my manuscript to A Single Map, and I’m trying to work out what is the most fun way to cycle through every one of the 400 grid squares on an Ordnance Survey map.

Here’s what I’d like to share with you today:

    • If you are new to my newsletter and fancy diving deep into the depths of the internet, with recommendations of books, articles, films and nuggets that have interested me, you can now dip into my Newsletter Archives.
    • I’m speaking at the National Outdoor Expo on Saturday 18th March. Come and say hi!
    • I wrote an article for The Times about the banning of wild camping on Dartmoor and the importance of expanding access to the countryside.
    • An interesting podcast interview with Paul Salopek about walking round the world for 10 years (so far).
    • From Identity to Inspiration: A Reading List on Why We Run. Pair this with my short film on why I run.
    • Nick is tackling the fabulous adventure of kayaking around Britain for a year, and he could do with your support right now. Follow @lifeafloat on Twitter.
    • Instead of wishing you had the money and time to take a month to do some sort of very notable human-powered adventure to the top of a mountain or across a country, how about doing some less-notable stuff near where you live every week, or every month? (AKA: Taking small adventures might make you just as happy as climbing Everest…)
    • World’s coldest marathon at blistering minus 53C in Yakutia.
    • This is a pleasing thread of artist’s desks covered with an insane amount of stuff.
    Can I help you?

Let me know if you have a relevant project that my readers would appreciate. Here’s what you guys have been up to recently:

    • ❤️ Beth and a friend have created Ride Free Collective CIC. Their first event is a womxn’s gravel and mountain bike festival 28-30th April in the Wye Valley. They are providing coaching, maps, skills, guided rides and mechanics to empower women to get out more and explore by bike. They try to subsidise our places to make the cost low and get more people riding then may not normally be able to.
    • ❤️ Mark has developed a once weekly newsletter called Because Wonder that explores the concept of wonder and helps readers turn the background noise of everyday life-the stuff we all take for granted-into wonder.
    • ❤️ Allie has published The Autistic Guide to Adventure: Active Pursuits from Archery to Wild Swimming for Tweens and Teens
