I’mm really happy to have a photo this week from Ethiopia; one of the most fascinating, memorable countries I have visited. But I also found it pretty hard going at times there.
Dan has this to say about his time there,
“I thought Ethiopia was great – a real shame that western media portrays and stigmatises the entire country when so much of it is fantastic and could really benefits from tourism if done well. An example of one great sustainable tourism project is the Dorze village of Chincha. It is a real village, but set up like a working museum, with a tour, demonstrations of local cooking etc. You get to see how the Dorze live, making use of everything they grow with no waste. The great thing about this village is that tourists can visit and experience part of it whilst the rest of the village continues its daily life behind without feeling like they are in a goldfish bowl with big zoom lenses looking in! Like you I’mm skeptical about the int dev signs and projects: fair trade is definitely the way forward and we visited a superb fair trade coffee plantation.”
