A recent find, which I devoured in two sittings, was the excellent and dreadfully moving Lone Rider – The First British Woman to Motorcycle Around the World by Elspeth Beard, who was a guest on Sarah Williams’ podcast.
She accomplished this in 1982 and it is fascinating and terrifying to contemplate just how big a deal this was pre-internet and pre-smartphone.
I have a very dusty motorbike licence and a very dusty motorbike sitting in the garage which is shouting at me ever louder and I entirely blame Elspeth!

Great article! There are so many women out there doing amazing things, without neccessarily making the headlines so it is nice to give them a bit of recognition. But there are also lots of ladies who are doing awesome things who don’t write about it or talk about it, you just have to look around:) . I could list at least 10 of my friends who do badass things and inspire me all the time :)
For inspiring women how about Josie Dew, Karen Darke and the great Dervla Murphy. I recently read Dervla’s book 8 feet in the Andes, particularly enjoyable having travelled twice in Peru in the last 18 months.
