I worked in India for six weeks at the end of 2008. Three weeks in Mumbai and three in Pune for a mobile phone company. As you say, it is a place of the modern and high tech amongst the ancient and low tech. Seeing old cars being recycled by hand in the streets of Mumbai was fascinating, while seeing the Dharavi slum was something I will never forget.
People are very friendly and full of humour. Their drive to progress is impressive. The food was great. Seeing immaculately dressed children walking through the slums on their way to school was in stark contrast to our schoolchildren in Britain.
I loved it.
I lived in South India for three years with my family and these pictures brought back the memories for me. Thank you.

I love your list of reasons to go – it doesn’t even mention the sights that people usually come to India for, but captures the daily wonders you can see and makes you want to experience them immediately!
Great pictures as always. I have not been to India yet, but I think it might just be the most colorful place on Earth. I have it on the mind lately as my friend recently went and was showing me her pictures, it seems like such an amazing place, I can’t wait to go!
fabulous photos – and Alistar you have captured the essence of the complex and mesmirising aspects of India . I was there in April and your photos sum up all the different experiences and emotions that travelling through India enables one to experience if one has an open mind and heart.
After spending 3 months traveling throughout India in 2006, I always say that it is both the best and the worst place to travel. Often at the same time! You did a wonderful job covering the best parts of traveling in India. As a tall-caucasian-American-woman I found it extremely difficult to travel (especially in the north) and endure the leering of the local men. However I found so much kindness and compassion from Indian people of all ages/genders to make up for it daily.

A few years ago, I traveled to India to visit my oldest son Zack who at that time was serving in the Peace Corp. in India. I would like to go back with all of my children as well. I am an amateur photographer and took numerous photos. Many of the photos you posted on the video are exceptional. Anyway, I emailed my son and he told me that he ready your book regarding your travels to India and he highly recommended that I read it as well.
