Once upon a time I went around the world by bike. Later I trekked around my city , to see whether I could find the adventures of the world on my own doorstep. I even tried eating my way around the world foods of London. My latest attempt to travel the world – to capture a hint of its excitement, its variety, its people, and all the lessons of different languages and cultures – has been through reading. I sat down to read a novel from the world’s ten most populous countries, written by an author from that country. It was a really interesting little project and one that will definitely continue. A concurrent challenge is to cook a meal from each of the countries I read about, preferably food that was mentioned in the book itself.
