I was really privileged recently to travel to Iceland to make a film exploring the lure of adventure and what draws me to seek out challenges in the world’s wild places. It was a joy to work with the teams from Cartier, the New York Times and Spindle. I hope that you enjoy the film as much as we enjoyed making it. We laughed a lot and slept very little. Good times!
While I really enjoyed this video and the many key points you intertwined throughout it, I came away with the sense that what I was seeing on my computer screen was very much the glamour (i.e.: fancy clothing/expensive cars) that you, yourself have over the years, preached about not needing to have a real adventure. My personal favourite videos are those where you load up your tattered and faded backpack to go sleep on a hill. Just my two cents.

Thanks a lot for your comment. I was interested by your take on it. A couple of points:
1. I hope that the scenery and the voiceover I did are consistent with everything I’ve ever talked about.
2. Me in fancy clothes etc certainly feels odd to myself!
3. I need to pay for my life as an adventurer – I can’t do that from books alone, and ‘authentic branded content’ is a route for doing that. I’m sorry if that sounds distasteful.

Thanks for the rely Alastair and detailed points. Your commentary and scenery was certainly consistent (actually better imho) than your many other videos with some poignant bits of advice that made me watch to the video several times over and jot down a few lines to keep in my memory bank.
In terms of the “authentic branded content”, I get what if can offer you and your family. This does not come out sounding distasteful in any way, just a different avenue from your previous work and one that I feel other adventures have taken as well. What I must commend you on (and continue to marvel at) its your ability not take yourself very serious (as in choosing to be a beginner at everything over an expert), something that is very much devoid from many professions today yet lends you (again imho) true credibility, accessibility and trust to your audience.
Please keep up the great work as it is inspiring, especially for those of us who are new to fatherhood and need to restructure how we perceive adventure.

I see Chris’s point although I think the message you use in the commentary and the beautiful places hold up to the messages you hold to. I hope someone pays for me to go to Iceland one day, anyone want to buy my granny?
