Yes, that is great timing for this post! I just went for my first wild open-ocean swim yesterday!
Here on the west coast of Vancouver Island, the Pacific Ocean is always cold, and the air never warms up much, either. But we’re in a heat wave right now, and I figured: If I don’t do it today, when ever will I?
I was inspired by coldwater ocean swimming when I was down in Chilean Patagonia this past February. My friends, Benja Cáceres and Bárbara Hernández had each set the Chilean male and female records, respectively, for swimming across Magellan Strait (from the South American continent to the island of Tierra del Fuego)! They really inspired me about getting out there and just doing it (and they are still encouraging me by email…)
So I don’t have photographic evidence of my own epic swim yesterday, but here are some photos and videos I took of then in Magellan Strait:

Spending the summer in California, these are my two local swimming holes:
1 – Gypsy Falls – The waterfall is located on the property where I currently live. Sleeping at the top of the waterfall is beautiful – so too is getting a massage from the falls.
2 – Yuba River – Two miles away is the stunning Yuba River. Hours have been passed swimming down these rapids or jumping off the rocks :-)
