I gave an after dinner talk to an accountancy firm this evening. One of the questions at the end still has me chuckling:

“When you were camping at sunset in the Serengeti or cresting an Andean peak in the crisp light of dawn, did you never just think, “I wish I was an accountant…”?”

He ended the evening though by reminding me of an excellent benefit of having a proper job when he invited me to Mahiki’s nightclub. Knowing the price of Mahiki’s cocktails this adventurer / correspondent declined politely and scurried home for a nice cup of tea!

(edit: an amusing follow-up. Just received an email saying:

“you may be amused to hear that the guy who asked you the comedy question never made it into Mahiki’s, and instead was last seen trying to order a snakebite from the hotel bar! Unsurprisingly, they wouldn’t serve one…”)
