There have been a few requests for more multimedia use on this site.
So I thought I would share an audio recording of an interview I did last summer. It was more fun than most interviews – we cycled a couple of laps of Richmond Park, chatting as we went. Here it is.
One of the early questions I was asked was about the “classic route for cycling round the world”. Mark Beaumont has shot to fame (and nailed a new BBC series) through his round the world ride. He was on the road for 6 months and cycled 18,000 miles through 20 countries.
I decided to cycle the length of the Earth’s three main land masses during my own lap of the planet.
The maps below show that we did very different routes, yet both of us cycled round the world. This then is the beginning of our conversation, the discussion about what is the “classic route for cycling round the world”, or even whether such a thing matters one iota. (Clue: I don’t think so!)
Listen to the interview here.
